Offered through the Department of Political Science, the master of public administration (MPA) program at Fresno State is designed for students interested in pursuing careers in the leadership of public or nonprofit organizations or programs. The MPA curriculum aims to build competency in the areas of public governance, public policy, critical thinking and problem solving, and public service.

To earn their MPA degree, Fresno State students must complete 36 semester units of coursework, which is typically taken over two academic years. The coursework includes core classes such as Administration and Society, Public Budgeting, and Human Resources Management. Students are also required to take elective courses. The electives give students the opportunity to build specialization in certain areas of public administration.

As the final step in completing the program, MPA students must pass a comprehensive exam or complete a thesis. Public administration internships are also available to students interested in gaining practical experience before earning their degrees.
